The Mint Stint

Mint or pudina is one herb that grows very easily without the use of any special seeds. All you have to do is use the mint stems which have roots on it, push them in the soil in a pot, water and wait till the mint plant eventually flourishes with tiny leaves coming out of the stem.

Whenever you want to use the leaves, just snip them from the stem. You don’t have to remove the whole plant from the mud like for coriander or other herbs. Just cut the required quantity, the plant will continue to grow.

More on this Mint Juice

This Mint Juice is one of those many other creations of mine that has fresh mint leaves from my balcony garden. It is simple, nutritious and a super summer cooler apt to beat the sweltering heat and level-up the energy levels instantly.

The best combination that there can ever be is that of fresh mint and lemon. Thus, I have added lemon juice in this drink. You can also garnish this Lemon Mint Juice with lemon wedges while serving. The punch from the cumin powder makes it extra awesome.

Since I used jaggery as a sweetener in this Pudina Juice, I did not have the beautiful green color at the end. Using sugar along with lemon juice while preparing will retain the bright green hue in this Juice.

My balcony garden is overflowing with mint shrubs most of the times. So, in addition to this juice recipe, I end up making a lot of other beverages like Chaas, Watermelon Juice and Mint Tea.

Mint also lends an amazing flavor in salads, chutneys and rice dishes. Some of my favorites include this Fruit Salad, Kachumber Salad, Mint Chutney and Pudina Rice.

  • It has detoxifying, antiseptic and cleansing properties. So, automatically the Lemon Mint Juice becomes a good choice if you want to follow a detox diet.
  • It is super for the skin, imparts a lovely glow and makes the skin radiant.
  • This Pudina Juice is a great source of vitamins and minerals due to the presence of mint leaves in it.

In addition to all these points, this Lemon Mint Juice is known to be effective in tackling morning sickness, nausea, stress, anxiety and hypertension as well.

Expert Tips

  1. You can add sugar or honey instead of jaggery in this recipe. The sweetness can be adjusted according to your preferences.
  2. Make sure to remove the mint leaves from the stems as using the stems might add some bitterness in the juice.
  3. Depending on your taste preferences, you can skip the cumin powder and/or add chaat masala too while serving. You can also consider adding some ginger to the juice.
  4. The best way to serve Mint Juice is chilled with ice cubes. In case you don’t want to do so, you can use chilled water to make the drink and consume it immediately.
  5. Preserve the bright green color of the drink by using sugar and lemon juice instead of jaggery.
  6. While it is best to drink immediately after making, Mint Juice stays good for a few hours in the refrigerator. You can freeze the leftover juice into ice cubes or popsicles for refreshing treats.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh mint leaves (pudina)
  • 9 to 10 tablespoons jaggery powder or sugar, add as required
  • ¼ cup water or add as required
  • ½ teaspoon black salt or regular salt
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder (jeera powder)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  • Remove the mint leaves from the stems. Rinse in water for a couple of times. Drain all the water.
  • Add all the rinsed mint leaves, jaggery or sugar, salt, cumin powder, lemon juice and water in a blender and blend to a smooth and fine paste.
  • Strain the juice mixture.
  • Take ¼ amount of the strained mint juice in a glass. Add ¾ amount of water. Mix well.
  • Add a few ice cubes and serve the Mint Juice cold.

Notes

  • Use fresh and tender mint leaves. Try not to use the stems as they can make the juice taste bitter.
  • Adjust the amount of jaggery or your preferred sweetener, lemon juice and salt according to your preferences.
  • Any fruit or herb juice is best served as soon as it is made. So is the case with this mint juice. If there are any leftovers then refrigerate for a few hours only.

    1. yes you can this way, but the flavors will change. i would suggest to make the mixture and keep for a few hours only in the fridge.

  1. Wonderful. Have to try this. I usually make mint juice with a handful mint leaves, a small piece of ginger and make a paste of it. To this I add some water, sugar, a dash of lemon and sometimes a pinch of chat masala or pepper.
