Since vegetarianism in India is the most prevalent choice of food, use of different vegetables to make a variety of dishes also is. From snacks, soups and salads to main course dishes and even deserts and mithais (sweets), vegetables are an important ingredient in Indian cooking. Here’s a handy list of Vegetables Name In English as well as in regional languages like Hindi, Tamil, Marathi and others.

In addition to these, I have also included other regional Indian languages for these Vegetables Name, wherever possible. It is always good to know and be aware of all ingredients that you use for cooking. The same goes for the names of veggies too. It not helps you to increase your knowledge, but you can also never be fooled of anything whenever you visit the market to buy these!

  1. What is पोकळा ? It is recommended as a par of iron rich diet like apples, jaggery, garden cress, dates, fenu greek, etc.for controlling strategy against hairfall, especially in young and middle age women.

    1. i have never heard of any hindi name for it. in the markets also its called as chow chow.

  2. Malabar spinach in Kannada is basale soppu and spinach is just palak. Also padwal or snake gourd is padwal Kai.

  3. What is english name of marwari and gujrati name of vegetable chibdiiya looks like small oval shape first green colour becomes yellow when ready to eat having small lines on this vegetables . PL let me know correct English name .

    Moringa (shegul in marathi i.e drumstick leaves)

      1. alsando is black eyed peas or black eyed beans in english. in hindi called as lobia. in punjabi its called as rongi. in tamil known as karamani. in marathi called as chawli.
