Grape Juice Recipe

Jump to Recipe

Grapes are gorgeous, grapes are good. So, why not make an easy-peasy Grape Juice recipe with just a few ingredients and a blender at hand. You don’t even need a fancy electric juicer for this Grape Juice, which literally gets done in a jiffy. Now that’s what I call a healthy way of cooling yourself off on a hot summer day!

More On This Grape Juice

I do have an electric juicer at home, and I would say that it juices really well. But the flipside is, I find it too tedious and tiresome to clean its different parts after juicing a fruit or vegetable. Hence, as much as possible, I make my juices in a blender and then strain them.

The same goes for this Grape Juice, which really gets done in the blink of an eye. All you need to do is put the grapes in the blender jar, give it a swoosh, strain and stir in remaining ingredients. Another juice that I use the blender/mixer for is this Orange Juice.

I have used seedless black grapes for this Grape Juice recipe, which were also naturally sweet. You can even make it with the other varieties by adjusting the remaining ingredients depending on the sweetness.

After blending these black grapes, if you find the taste of the Grape Juice on the stronger side, dilute it with some water or ice cubes that’ll also chill the beverage.

Since the black grapes that I used were also very sweet, I did not add any extra sweetener to this Grape Juice recipe. I also added a teeny bit of lemon juice, just to bring in a slight tang factor and balance the sweetness from the grapes.

But if you have grapes that are not on the sweeter side, then you can use sugar or powdered jaggery depending upon how sweet you like your drink to be.

Buy The Right Produce

An important thing to keep in mind while working with grapes, or for that matter any fruits is that, they are usually laden with pesticides when sold by fruit vendors in the market.

So, if you end up buying these, rinse them thoroughly in running water first. Then, soak in a vinegar-water solution for a couple of minutes and rinse well again in water.

However, if you can find fresh organic black grapes, then nothing like it. They are free of toxic chemicals and pesticides and you can process them directly into this Grape Juice after just a simple wash.

Get To Know Grapes

One of the most consumed and diverse fruits, grapes or ‘angoor’ are as good as raw as they are when they turn into healthful raisins or are cooked too. This sweet fruit is also loaded with essential nutrients, and thus great for the body and mind.

It is believed that grapes reached India in 1300 AD, through Persian invaders. Nashik in Maharashtra is the grape city or capital of India. Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh are other South Indian states where vineyards are reared.

The two most common ways of consuming grapes across the world is having them raw as a fruit or turning them into wine. Apart from these, grapes are also great in salads, beverages like this Grape Juice, desserts, sauces and for making compotes/preserves/chutneys.

Types And Health Benefits Of Grapes

Based on the difference in color, size and taste, grapes in India can be classified into the following types:

  • Super Sonaka Seedless and Thompson Seedless – Most common variety, pale green colored and sweet
  • Sharad Seedless – Black, fleshy and sweet
  • Red Globe Seedless, Flame Seedless and Crimson Seedless – Round, crunchy red colored and juicy.

Nutritionally, grapes are loaded with antioxidants, Vitamin C and K and minerals. Perfect fruit to refresh your systems, a healthy snack, help in boosting the immune system and lower risks of inflammation.

Expert Tips

  1. As far as possible, buy and use organic black grapes or green grapes for this juice. This saves you the time required to get rid of the hazardous pesticides usually found on the regular grapes.
  2. Extra sugar or other sweeteners should only be used if the grapes are not naturally sweet.
  3. To cut down the extreme sweetness in this Grape Juice recipe, add a teaspoon or two or lemon juice.
  4. You can dilute the strained thick and strong Grape Juice by adding a few ice cubes or some water in it.
  5. Serve the juice immediately for maximum benefits. If not, then you can refrigerate the juice and consume within a few hours.

Ingredients

  • 500 to 550 gram black grapes or green grapes (seedless) – preferably organic
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice or add as required, optional
  • 2 to 3 pinches black salt – optional
  • raw sugar or powdered jaggery, as required – optional
  • water add as needed, optional

Instructions

  • Rinse the organic black grapes or green grapes thoroughly in water a few times using a mesh strainer or colander. Drain all the water and set aside.
  • Transfer the rinsed grapes to a blender. Blend to a fine consistency ensuring there are no chunks of the grapes. Pour the juice on a strainer which has been lined under a bowl.
  • With a spoon press the pulp in the strainer very well, so that all the extra juice is strained.
  • Taste the juice and if it feels strong for your palate, add some water as needed.
  • If the juice is not sweet, add some sugar or your preferred sweetener.
  • For a bit of tang, add lemon juice. Stir to mix. Pour grape juice in glasses or mugs.
  • While serving the juice, sprinkle a pinch of black salt in the glasses if you like.
  • Serve Black Grape Juice immediately with or without ice cubes.
  • You can garnish the juice with grapes or mint leaves.

Notes

  • Preferably try to make the grape juice with organic grapes. However, if you end up buying non-organic grapes, then remember to rinse them thoroughly in running water first. Then, soak in a vinegar and water solution in a bowl for about 5 minutes. Rinse again twice in water using a strainer or colander.
  • Black salt can be skipped if you do not have it.
  • Feel free to add some spiced notes by including a few pinches of crushed black pepper or cayenne pepper or ginger. Add about ½ teaspoon of chopped ginger while blending the grapes.
  • For a cold juice, add a few ice cubes or a bit of cold water.
  • Grape juice tastes best when freshly juiced. The flavor and nutrition profile are maximum when the grapes are juiced. So I would not recommend storing the juice as there may be a loss of some nutrients.
